List of San Diego/Southern CA Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurants

We will be regularly adding local vegan restaurants to this list but please leave a comment if there is a vegan or vegetarian restaurant that you would like to see listed.

  • Evolution Fast Food

http://www.evolutionfastfood.com/

Neighborhood: Hillcrest
2965 5th Ave (corner of Quince)
San Diego, CA 92103
Phone: 619-550-1818

Restaurant and Drive-Thru Hours:
Daily 11:00 am - 9:00 pm

Categories: Burgers, Shakes, Drive-thru
Info: We can't say enough great things about this vegan drive-thru. They have excellent burgers, sandwiches, fries and other deliciously unhealthy spins on non-vegan drive-thru fare. But they also make fresh juices and shakes (our favorite is the Mystic Monk - almond milk, chocolate powder, tahini and banana!) and if you go inside, they have raw foods and desserts, pre-made wraps, and cold drinks like Guayaki etc.

  • Rancho's Cocina

Neighborhood: North Park
3910 30th St (between University Ave & Lincoln Ave)
San Diego, CA 92104
Phone: (619) 574-1288

Restaurant Hours:
Mon-Thu 9 am - 10 pm
Fri-Sat 8 am - 10 pm
Sun 8 am - 9 pm

Categories: Mexican (WARNING: Menu contains both meat and meatless dishes!)
Info: Since North Park is our 'hood, this is the one we frequent. There is also a location in Ocean Beach. Awesome service, free chips and salsa, and good food make this joint one of our go-to's. Not to mention it's probably the only place in San Diego where you can find vegan breakfast food! (Please, please correct me if I'm wrong!) This place gets crazy busy around 6-7pm Fridays and Saturdays so either avoid that general time frame or be prepared to wait!

  • Ocean Beach People's Organic Food Market

http://obpeoplesfood.coop

Neighborhood: Ocean Beach
4765 Voltaire Street (corner of Voltaire and Sunset Cliffs)
San Diego, CA 92107
Phone: (619) 224-1387

Hours:
Daily 8 am - 9 pm

Categories: Deli, Market
Info: This isn't quite a restaurant, but rather, a member-owned completely vegetarian co-op with a deli on the second story. The store has organic produce, bulk flours, grains and herbs, along with hard to find vegan food and vegan body care products. (They also carry the GT's Original Kombucha!) Down here you will also find a cold section for pre-made burritos, wraps, and goodies. Upstairs you'll find the deli, which always contains an assortment of hot and cold foods, and the menu rotates daily. They have a salad bar, as well as a few different selections of soups on any given day. You're also able to create your own sandwiches with standard fare such as cucumber, lettuce, avocado, etc. This is the option we choose most of the time, and then get a salad to go with it. Some of our favorites are the the Winning Kale Salad & Caesar Salad.

  • Native Foods

http://nativefoods.com/

Neighborhood: Encinitas
127 North El Camino Real (in the Trader Joe's shopping center)
Encinitas, CA 92024
Phone: (760) 634-7607

Hours:
Mon-Sun: 11 AM - 10 PM

Categories: American, Casual, Burgers, Sandwiches
Info: Yes, this is in Encinitas, but the drive is so worth it. Before the Encinitas location arrived, every trip to LA/Orange County required that we stop in one either on the way up or on the way back. Finally though, San Diego County received a treat as well! Their menu rotates some items, while others remain staples, and it's hard to say anything bad about any of the dishes. If you are craving something healthy, they have options such as salads and bowls. If you are feeling a bit more naughty, they have burgers and wraps such as their Chicken Twister Wrap. There are also numerous delicious desserts.

  • Loving Hut

http://lovinghut.us/sandiego/

Neighborhood: North Park
1905 El Cajon Blvd
San Diego, CA 92104
Phone: (619) 683-9490

Hours:
Mon-Fri 11 AM - 2 PM; 5 PM - 9 PM & Sat 11 AM - 9 PM

Categories: Asian, Asian-American
Info: Great for when you are too lazy to cook, or you are craving some yummy Asian food! They are not the healthiest option around, but they do have a huge selection to choose from. They rely heavily on meat substitutes although there are many menu items where the soy protein isn't the main attraction. A personal favorite is the Lucky Chowmein due to the abundance of veggies and noodles. A nice soup to have on a chilly day is the Bun Hue, ordered extra spicy :) There is another location in Mira Mesa, with a slightly different menu, but it has the same attractions.

  • Stephanie's Bakery

http://www.stephaniesbakery.com/

Neighborhood: Ocean Beach
4879 Voltaire Street (corner of Voltaire and Cable)
San Diego, CA 92107
Phone: (619) 307-0950

Hours:
Fri-Sun 3 PM - 9 PM

Categories: Pizza, Bakery
Info: Basically the best pizza you will ever have, vegan or otherwise. They are only open limited hours (they are in the process of changing that), but it is absolutely worth it to get yourself down there when they are open. Everything here is vegan, and for you non-vegans trust us, you won't miss a thing! Soft chewy crust, just the right amount of sauce, and a heavenly ratio of toppings. Not only that but Stephanie's uses Follow Your Heart instead of Daiya, resulting in a cheese that manages to get perfectly melted and isn't completely overpowering! They also offer calzones, which unfortunately we have never tried because it's so hard to tear us away from the pizza. Maybe next time. They also used to offer the best damn salads you've ever had, and coming from a vegan that really says something. (Let's demand they bring 'em back! ;]) While you're here you can't forget to pick up some sweets! They offer cupcakes, cookies, brownies, whole cakes and slices of cake as well. They also offer custom cakes. As for all of the desserts we have tried, nothing has been less than delicious.
